David E. Dangerfield, President/CEO: Dr. David Dangerfield was appointed President and CEO of Avalon Health Care, Inc. on September 1, 2007. He has had a distinguished career in the field of health care administration for over forty years. In 2007, he was elected to Avalon's Board of Directors. Previously he served as the President/CEO of Valley Mental Health, a private, comprehensive, nonprofit mental health center in Utah. Throughout his career he developed numerous services to help people with mental illness live productive lives, including, subsidized housing, skills development, educational opportunities, and employment.
He has spent his career as an advocate, advisor, and visionary; working to provide greater access, better treatment, hopeful outcomes, and more opportunities for those with various health care illnesses. The mental health needs of patients in long-term care facilities has been a keen interest, and he worked with Avalon Health Care, Inc. to develop a best practice model of psychiatric care integrated in the long-term care facility. Additionally he developed an innovative home and community-based service system for those patients otherwise eligible for long-term institutional care.
David Dangerfield graduated with his Masters and Doctoral degrees from the University of Utah. He is an author of two books, as well as chapters in professional texts, and numerous articles in national publications. Dr. Dangerfield has received numerous awards and recognition in the health care field and was most recently recognized by the National Council of Community Behavioral Centers with the "Lifetime Service Award."
